Sitting at the tip of a 0.8 mile stone jetty, Rockland Breakwater Light surrounds itself in a picturesque melange of sea, hillsides, ships and fresh air. As the tide recedes, it leaves a notable water line and seaweed on the granite blocks. One late September (2006) morning I chartered a boat and took along my sketchbook and camera. The captain and I traveled in a crescent pattern over the calm, moving seas while I searched for the right composition. As we gradually moved farther away from the lighthouse, the nearby Camden Hills magnified its presence. "That's it!" I exclaimed. A balance of sea, lighthouse, hillside, and sky provided the depth and drama I was seeking. The sun was shinning brightly that morning on the face of the lighthouse and flag, delivering a striking and memorable scene.

With an irregular (artwork) edge this art print does not require matting. Celebrate the beauty and spirit of your favorite Maine lighthouse, perfect for your home or office. Available in 18" x 24" (standard frame size) or the Grand View size of 36" x 53". Conceived, created and printed in Maine.
